Perth’s professional basketball team, the Perth Wildcats will be heading down to Byford to help coach and mentor the Drug Aware Ignite Participants. Adding to their already packed community outreach schedule, Wildcats players will make the journey out to the Serpentine Jarradale Recreation centre see join in with the award winning intervention for young people aged 12 – 18.
Of the program, player Cam Tovey previously commented, "For me basketball was really good growing up. It gave me something to do, kept me busy and I went to training three or four times a week. If you've got games on the weekend you've always got something to look forward to and you never really get bored. You've always got something you can work on at home so for me, sport was something that kept me out of trouble. Initiatives like Drug Aware Ignite Basketball are really good for kids. Especially in areas where youth crime is quite heavy at this time on a Saturday night, they can hang out together and do something constructive."
A player will be attending on the following dates:
- Saturday 2nd May
- Saturday 16th May
- Saturday 30th May
- Saturday 13th June
- Saturday 27th June
