Ignite Basketball is a free community initiative that uses sport to engage and develop young people in disadvantaged areas. Operating during times when youth crime is at its highest, we offer the opportunity for young men and women to play basketball, develop leadership skills, gain formal qualifications and work with positive role models for a brighter future.
Our coaches , youth workers and volunteers employ an approach to facilitation that caters to the specific needs of the individual , allowing for tailored goal-setting and a greater chance of success.
We understand that the most important element in cultivating positive change in young people is the relationship. There are no quick fixes and it for this reason that Ignite Basketball invests in its participants in the long term.
Operating for forty weeks of the year , we offer intensive and fun skills and drills that accommodate for all levels while challenging the participant physically and mentally. Each session includes an educational speaker on a wide range of topics relevant to the young people.
The last Saturday of every month features a "Showcase Tournament", allowing players to display their new or improved skills in front of friends, family and special guests. Prizes and Awards are up for grabs for those who set good examples for others (on and off-court) through role-modelling, hard work, initiative and focus.
Ignite Basketball ' s ultimate goal is to empower young people with the abilities confidence and inspiration to not only help themselves but also those around them.
