City Of Armadale Ignites As A Shining Star of Child Safety

Crown Perth’s Grand Ballroom lit up with the stars of child safety on Saturday night, 10 August 2013 as The Constable Care Child Safety Awards took place to celebrate the achievements of the remarkable Western Australians dedicated to protecting children from harm and creating child-safe environments and communities.

The evening saw over 450 guests, dressed in their gala best, enjoy a three-course dinner and a presentation ceremony hosted by Deborah Kennedy to acknowledge the many and varied stakeholders involved in this vital field of work. Amongst the glitz and glamour was the City of Armadale and the team from the IGNITE Basketball program, nominated for the The John Hughes sponsored WA Local Government Child Safety Award.

Nine Child Safety Award categories were presented during the evening to celebrate the achievements of volunteers, employees, the emergency services, educators and carers, local and state government, community program and corporate partnerships in metropolitan and regional Western Australia. Each winner received a framed certificate and Constable Care Child Safety Medal.

Presented by Honourable Anthony Simpson MLA, The WA Local Government Child Safety Award recognises Local Government throughout Western Australia and its outstanding contribution to child safe environments and communities. There were five shortlisted finalists in this award category, with the City of Armadale taking out the honours for its IGNITE Basketball program, a youth diversion program that started in 2010 and uses basketball training, tournaments and workshops as tools to engage young people who are at risk of participating in criminal or anti-social behaviour.

Constable Care Child Safety Foundation CEO, David Gribble, extended his congratulations to all the child safety award winners and finalists, “Western Australia is very lucky to have all these incredible people out there doing such great work for our children and young people…Constable Care is a name synonymous with keeping children safe here in WA - so the child safety awards really is a natural extension of our work and collaborations in the child safety sector.”

The evening concluded in a shroud of feathers, frocks and hits from the ‘80’s as 100% Kylie got everyone up and dancing – the perfect end to a wonderful celebration of the stars of child safety.
