Our second tournament kicked off on the 21st of July 2012 and featured the beginning of Ignite’s leadership development. Eight team captains were chosen for each squad of 5 people and were given the responsibility of being in charge for the entire tournament. They needed to find team strips, assign team number stickers, handle substitutions and with a provided schedule, make sure their team was ready to play on the correct court at the correct time.
Points were docked if any of the conditions were not adhered to, and the best 5 performing captains were chosen to take part in an end of tournament All-Stars game vs the Ignite Coaches, while being coached by special guests Jess Wagstaff and Cam Tovey from the Perth Wildcats.
The tournament was a complete success and also was used to announce the Under 14’s girls squad as well as the Under 16’s boys and girls squad respectively.
Ignite Basketball’s first competitive match (Under 16 boys) will be played against Griff Longley’s Midland Midnight Basketball on Friday the 10th of August at Armadale Arena.
